Art-Cans Project outline

A public art project by Morro Bay BEAUTIFUL

Morro Bay BEAUTIFUL is working with the city of Morro Bay to clean, repair and decorate the city’s sidewalk and park trash containers that will beautify the downtown and waterfront areas of Morro Bay.

Titled "Art Cans", the project will start with 10 city-owned trash receptacles and engage the services of local artists to transform them into works of art.

The theme of the project is "Birds & Beach of Morro Bay", so artworks would be of local birds and seascapes or a combination of the two.

This is in keeping with the city’s goal of promoting Eco-tourism and beautification of visitor areas.

Artists & Art - The project’s 5-person committee will select artists who have answered a call for proposals. The artist will submit drawings to be reproduced onto the containers and a list of materials they would be using.

Sponsors – Organizations, businesses or private parties may sponsor an Art Can for a $1000 fee. A plaque on the Art Can will list the sponsor and artists name. Simply call our president, Ann Reisner, at  805-772-8117.

The enhanced trash containers will send a message to our visitors that we respect our city and its environment, and encourage them to do the same.
